The City of Jacksonville has declared August 11, 2024, as a Heat Emergency Day due to a Heat Advisory in Duval County for the fourth day in a row, with a maximum heat index expected between 108°F and 112°F. Cooling Centers are available today at the Jacksonville Public Library Main Branch and Legends Center from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Free transportation to Cooling Centers is offered by the Jacksonville Transportation Authority on Heat Emergency days with riders needing to mention their destination to get free fare. Remember to stay hydrated, avoid leaving children or pets in hot cars, stay in air-conditioned areas, wear light-colored clothes, and be aware of signs of heat-illness.
