Duval County students shine at national ACT-SO competition

Thirteen students from Duval County Public Schools in Jacksonville, Florida recently competed in the NAACP Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) at the national level. The talented students represented William M. Raines High School, Duncan Fletcher High School, and Douglas Anderson School of the Arts. Some of the showcased talents included vocal contemporary music, written poetry, traditional dance, modern dance, acting, ballet, instrumental classical music, drawing and painting, sculpture, poetry performance, vocal classical music, and an original essay.

Among the participants, Kobie Dawes won a bronze medal, Alexa Akpabie and Brea Carbert won silver medals, and Ayviana Singh and Jahneen Alexander won gold medals. The students were recognized at a board meeting, and a video of the moment can be viewed at the provided link.
